That was a cool column, I say skip Taste of Chicago and Summerfest, Lollapalooza for $35 sounds pretty good, the best might be Intonation. I have been to SXSW and Austin City Limits plenty of times, and must say partying all day and night with music and a beer in your hand can be a great way to spend a few days even if it's not perfect and a little exhausting.
the taste? it's more like "the waste"
